Dan Maizner Memorial Fund

"It is truly a great foundation and I am proud to call myself a Fairview Alum, and to be associated with people who are such an asset not only to the Alumni of Fairview but to the community as a whole."

This Memorial Fund has been set up in the name of Dan Maizner, husband of longtime FFF Volunteer, Susan Loughridge (class of '82). Dan Maizner passed away unexpectedly on August 30th. Susan has been kind enough to think of FFF, and has requested that FFF set up this fund in his memory. Proceeds from the fund will go toward ongoing FFF Mentorship Programs.

Many of you know Susan Loughridge from the class of ‘82. She is best characterized as an intense and remarkably loving and giving friend. Active with FHS alumni, Susan helps organize her class reunions and keeps the class of ‘82 database updated. And as an ambassador with FFF since 2008, she has been instrumental in communicating FFF to the world, nominating and supporting people in need with magic moments, and following up with our recipients. In addition, Susan is FFF's wiz on the computer, Facebook, and Twitter, and has been affectionately dubbed our International Director of FB, Computer Bugs, and Tech-Related Issues.

Susan lives in Arizona and we were fortunate she made it back this August for our big weekend of events. In typical fashion, she rolled up her sleeves and asked "How can I help?" In many ways, Susan has been a rock that FFF and its people have relied on for support.

Susan's rock in her life has been her husband Dan. Married for nineteen years, they were partners in business and life. Theirs was a marriage full of wit, humor and banter, which their friends shared through their numerous, and sometimes irreverent, FB posts.

Dan unexpectedly passed away on August 30th. As word spread, Susan began to receive calls and cards filled with heartfelt condolence and requests of "How can I help?" Susan was kind enough to think of FFF and set up a fund in his memory with Fairview Friends as the beneficiary.

A lifelong hockey, lacrosse and soccer player, Dan always loved sports and had a natural gift for athletics. Previously, he and Susan co-owned a business helping youth develop proper sports techniques - a job that combined Dan's love of athletics with his natural skill at working with and teaching young people.

On their 19th wedding anniversary in July, Susan and Dan spent the day volunteering at the Arizona State Veterans Home. That evening, Susan summed up on FB not only the day, but also their lives together: "Teamwork is amazing and it is true, when you give, you receive so much more in return. Thanks for sharing the day with me, Dan Maizner - it couldn't have been more perfect."

RIP Dan Maizner. You will be missed.
